 Celebrating 150 Years
In recognition of the school being open 150 years on 14th January 2011 a tree will be planted for every student currently at the school.
Some trees will be planted at our playing fields at Coolnagard. We will also plant trees in other areas within our local community:
  • Beside the Owenkillen Community Centre in Gortin,
  • Ecclesville in Fintona
  • The riverside walkway in Dromore

Students will bring in £2 towards the cost of the trees and after payment for the trees, the remainder of the money will be donated to St. Vincent De Paul to assist them with the excellent work they carry out in our local community. Students will receive a certificate as acknowledgement that a tree was planted in their name and small stone plaques will also be placed at these various locations so passers by will know that these trees have been planted by students from the CBS in recognition of the school’s 150th anniversary. The Conservation Volunteers and Omagh District Council will work with all our Year 8 students and a selection of our Year 14 students to plant the trees in late October / early November. They will also advise us on what trees are native to the areas and therefore what type of trees we should plant, but it is likely that they will be mostly Ash or Oak. The school will also be eligible to enter a competition organised by the BTCV.

The BTCV is a charity, set up in 1959, with a successful history of helping people carry out voluntary environmental & conservation projects. The BTCV Vision: to create a better environment where people are valued, included and involved. The BTCV Mission: To create a more sustainable future by inspiring people and improving places.
