CBS Omagh celebrates the many academic, extra-curricular and community achievements of past and current students at their recent prizegiving ceremony Mr Brannigan acknowledged the many achievements in the academic, sporting, cultural and extra curricular life of the school and took the celebration of achievement and service to the community as the themes for the prizegiving ceremony held on 29th March. He said 2008-09 was a great year for Omagh CBS with success for our students in so many areas. The results achieved by the class of 2009 were outstanding. In addition to the great level of success achieved by all students, individual achievements at A level have again shown that the students at Omagh CBS continue to be among the best in N.Ireland with James Barrett achieving 1st place in Chemistry. While Mr Brannigan acknowledged that high academic achievement is important, he stressed that it is only one part of the work carried on in this school. The development of the whole person is central to our work. We pride ourselves in the amount of time, energy and resources that we provide to ensure that our pupils are given the widest range of opportunities and experiences to enable them to become the well balanced and mature young men who were celebrated on the night. Last year, we provided a wide ranging programme of extra-curricular activities for all of our students and we have had great success in a wide range of sporting and cultural activities with one of the highlights of the last year being the achievement of the young men who were the 2008-09 MacRory Cup squad. He acknowledged the great service that our Board of Governors provides to the school and the ongoing support from parents, teaching and support staff that all help make the school the success that it is.. The guest speaker was, Mr Joe Brogan, a past pupil of the CBS in Omagh and who is now Head of Pharmacy and Medicines Management at the Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Board. Mr Brogan said that we need ‘people to be ambitious and forward thinking’ and when he looked at students from the CBS he could see ‘tremendous energy, inventiveness and potential. Collectively, you could change the world.’
