Year 13 pupils acted as mentors to primary school children on Monday 15th March when pupils from St Lawrence’s, Denamona and Christ the King arrived at the CBS Sports Hall to undertake a Sentinus workshop. Sentinus developed a full day robotics programme giving pupils the opportunity to assemble, and control robotic cars. The students were required to write their own programmes which are then downloaded to their robot to enable it to carry out its tasks. Sentinus is a not for profit educational charity which works with schools and colleges throughout Northern Ireland to deliver programmes which remote engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to inspire children to consider careers in these areas. The programmes enrich the learning experience for pupils, in practical problem solving activities, research and development and investigative projects. Although focusing on Science, technology, engineering and maths they also give significant opportunity to enhance employability and personal development through problem solving, team working, target setting, monitoring, working with adults and independent learning.
