Year 8 ‘Scratching’ the surface of games design

Year 8 students are getting a unique opportunity to design their own games and animations in the lunchtime Superleague club.

Scratch is software that allows students to create interactive games using images and sound, they can develop their programming knowledge using blocks instructions to move and control the objects. Mrs. Rogan says “The Year 8 students have excellent ICT skills and it is great to see so many using their lunchtime to learn new skills. Scratch develops a range of skills and we may even have some future professional games designers in the club!”

One student said “It’s cool, we are learning new things, like games, and I am being constructive at lunchtime and make new friends from other classes.” Another student commented on how it helps team-work skills “We get to learn scratch and all it’s applications, we cooperate and help each other and share ideas”

So if you want to embrace your creative side let your imagination flow, download Scratch here: http://scratch.mit.edu/ For more information on games see your ICT Teacher.
